Spectacular Secret Single-track
Made famous by Mountain Biking USA, Bike Mag USA, and BIKE Germany, as well as books such as Mountain Biking by Rob Story, these one-day single-track mountain biking rides in the hills and mountains surrounding La Paz, Bolivia are world-class, both in quality and variety of the trails and in the spectacular nature of the scenery. If you have a reasonable amount of mountain biking experience you won't want to miss these!
Notable Highlights:
World-class single-track mountain biking trails set in amongst stunning Andean scenery, featuring mammoth days of downhill mountain biking, up to 10,000ft of vertical descent a day. A wide variety of different trail options suitable for Intermediate level riders on up to the truly insane. Small groups! Hands-on instruction and coaching (in English) throughout the day. By the end of the day you'll be trying technical sections you never before thought possible.
Suitable for:
These rides are only suitable for Intermediate or above level riders with at least some single-track experience. If you are unsure of your experience level then we suggest you book and do our "World's Most Dangerous Road" ride first and one of our guides can assess your level and choose the Secret Single-track trail right for you. While these days are mostly downhill, don't be fooled into thinking they won't be tiring, trust us, nobody builds hills like these where you come from - and you'll finish the day comfortably exhausted.
Description:
All of our Secret Single-track rides start from the Gravity House where we will fit you to some Kona leg and arm armour, long finger gloves, and a 661 dirt jump helmet. From there we drive just out of town to one of our "training grounds" where we will set you up on your bike, give you some instructions, light you and push you off a cliff … no, just kidding. After some initial instructions we will focus on doing short sections of trail where the guide will be able to "lead by example" then watch you tackle the section while all the time yelling encouragement and advice. This time down this trail will usually take about 40 minutes, after which we will load the bikes up onto the support vehicle and drive back up to tackle the same trail again. This time we will focus on slightly longer sections of the trail and continue working on improving your skills with increasingly difficult options. If time permits we will do a third, almost continuous run down this trail again, perhaps taking 20 minutes or less this time.
After finishing up on the "training ground" trail we will drive back up into the hills outside of La Paz to one of our secret picnic spots. We will have lunch there while admiring the spectacular views of the surrounding Andean mountains, eroded rock formations and farmer's fields. From here we will tackle a longer ride of 2-3 hours, 95% downhill, and 100% away from the hustle-and-bustle of town, we will ride down mule and walking tracks, through small villages, and past surprised locals working in their fields. For this longer section of riding we have five options to choose from, depending on the skill level of the group, and how everyone has responded to the initial training session. This means that enthusiastic riders can sign up for several days of riding and NEVER REPEAT the same ride twice! Unless you want to of course. In combination with our coaching several days of our secret single-track riding is guaranteed to push your riding up several notches.
At the end of this section of trail we will join back up with the support vehicle and if time and group energy levels permit we will drive off to the start of a final shorter section of "special" trail … either one of our more favorite sweeter sections of single-track, or some urban assault riding … guaranteed to leave you with a silly satisfied grin on your face.
** Notes:
GravityBolivia also offers two and three day Secret Single-Track rides incorporating the same approach as the one-day rides, but in secret locations away from La Paz. If you are interested in these we suggest you contact us directly to arrange things.

FAQs About the Tour |
GRAVITY ASSISTED MOUNTAIN BIKING
About Gravity Assisted Mountain Biking:
GRAVITY was established in July 1998 in Bolivia, after I had spent two months doing exploratory rides here while working with a mountaineering company as a guide and consultant. After two months of further research, we started with one of my Specialized Stumpjumpers and two Chilean hard-tail bicycles, doing rides four times a week.
It was quickly apparent that there was healthy demand for 1-day downhill mountain-bike tours here, so we set about accumulating bicycles as quickly as we could -- mail order, cycle tourists passing through, friends bringing them in from New Zealand, borrowing and purchasing from local bike shops, etc.
After a September 2000 trip to Interbike in Las Vegas, we negotiated a sponsorship partnership with Kona Bicycles and since then have been bringing in a wide range of mid- to high-end Kona bikes. This has enabled us to steadily upgrade our fleet, which now totals almost 100 near-new bicycles. Our fleet includes both front-suspension, hydraulic-disc-brake equipped mountain bikes in a range of sizes and full-suspension, hydraulic-disc-brake equipped bikes.
We pride ourselves on using Western guides, Western-quality equipment, and operating by Western safety standards. We've done these rides more often than anybody else and our clients love our trips. (There's a pile many many feet thick of customer feedback forms to prove it!)
